At Woodside, each student is valued. Our staff understands that each student responds differently to a particular stimuli, therefore our teachers reach students through a variety of effective research based strategies.
Our innovative school model at Woodside uses a design thinking approach created by the d. School at Stanford University. This approach is an example of human centered design where we are working to get our students and community more involved in the learning that happens here at Woodside. Part of this design thinking approach involved the creation of prototypes. Below are some exciting prototypes that have happened across the campus:
- Using a light table to improve academic skills and student engagement (TK)
- Using hydroponic growing systems and other types of planting spaces to compare growth rates (2nd grade)
- Creating calm classroom environments where students feel connected and increase self-regulation strategies (4th grade)
- Teaching student to reduce their carbon footprint and connect with our outdoor garden space (5th grade)
- Use Legos to support student learning of basic engineering principles (middle school exploration)
Woodside is a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school that emphasizes and reinforces our Cougar ROARS: Be Respectful, Be Organized, Be Accepting, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Students modeling ROARS can be rewarded with Cougar Cash that can be used on rewards during at Cougar Cart for 1st-4th grade and at a digital Paw Mart for 5th-8th grade.
