Innovative School

On March 21, Woodside TK-8 families and students were invited to explore experiential activities hosted by Re-Create, a local non-profit that brings a hands-on exploration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) learning to schools throughout the greater Sacramento region.

Staff provided the board with an update on the ongoing prototype progress that is occurring with the innovative school program at Woodside TK-8. The presentation included the focus areas for prototyping in preparation for the launch of the program in the 2024-25 school year, and information about the school's identified goals, objectives, tactics, and metrics for measuring growth within these areas. San Juan Unified built a diverse and creative Design Team to lead the Innovative School design process. 

After deciding to place the innovative school within Citrus Heights, the Design Team held over 18 meetings at various schools throughout the community and chose Woodside to launch the project.

Former Lichen K-8 Principal, Elizabeth Wahl is selected to be the new principal at Woodside Innovative School.

The design team began the prototyping process in order to envision what the Innovative School would look like and shared with families and students at Woodside’s spring carnival.

Prototypes continue to be developed and refined to make a preview of offerings available by the end of 2023.

Woodside shared the design team's core pillars with the school community at its Cocoa, Crafts and Community event in December followed by a full presentation and update on the Innovative School design process to the San Juan Unified Board of Education in early January. The full presentation is available.
